About Trek.ge

My name is Richard DeLong. I've been living in Georgia since December 2011 and have explored it thoroughly on foot. I go hiking several times a month, often leading groups of hikers.

I'm an experienced backpacker with several very long trips under my belt, including the Pacific Crest Trail, which goes for 4300 km through the mountains of the western U.S. from the Mexican border to Canada.

I love maps and plan my routes using a combination of trail intuition, open source maps, Google Earth satellite photos, Soviet "Genshtab" maps, and any other maps I can get my hands on. I am constantly looking for new routes and like to experiment during my hikes.

I'm fairly confident I'm among the top 10 most experienced and knowledgeable hiking experts in Georgia, with literally hundreds of hiking routes hiked and mapped over the years.

I'm also an expert on ultralight backpacking and created the first Russian-language website on the subject, Legkohod.com.

My primary activities are writing and simultaneous interpreting. Together with my friends Denis and Konstantin I run the project Trek.ge. We can be reached at trek.ge @ gmail.com.
